Warning lights

AdBlue warning / countdown to no-start

  1. Most likely NOx sensor failure NCV3, VS30
  2. Also check AdBlue injector or pump fault NCV3, VS30
  3. Possible Poor-quality or crystallised AdBlue

How it drives

Limp mode / sudden loss of power

  1. Most likely Turbo actuator sticking
  2. Also check Blocked DPF or failed regen
  3. Possible EGR valve stuck
  4. Possible Boost leak or split intercooler hose

Rough idle, misfire or knocking

  1. Most likely Leaking or worn injector ("black death" around the seat)
  2. Also check EGR fouling

Harsh or hunting automatic gearbox

  1. Most likely 7G-Tronic / 9G-Tronic adaptation or fluid overdue NCV3, VS30

Noises

Rattle from front of engine on cold start

  1. Most likely Timing chain stretch / tensioner wear NCV3, VS30 Most associated with the OM651

Black or white smoke from the exhaust

  1. Most likely Injector overfuelling
  2. Also check EGR / DPF issue

Starting & battery

Flat battery / electrical gremlins

  1. Most likely Parasitic drain on VS30 (modules not sleeping) VS30
  2. Also check Aux/leisure battery wiring on a conversion

Body & rust

Rust on sills, wheel arches or door bottoms

  1. Most likely Corrosion, especially T1N and early NCV3 T1N, NCV3
